The Society’s Work

The Society campaigns on a number of issues affecting the Cambrian Mountains, and also makes its views known by responding to consultations on matters affecting the area.

National Parks Act 1949 70th Anniversary
The society has written to Wales First Minister Mark Drakeford asking the Welsh Government to mark this milestone for designated landscapes in Wales with renewed support for appropriate recognition of the unique landscape of the Cambrian Mountains

The Society has received a ministerial reply to its May 2019 letter to the Welsh Government, expressing CMS concerns about the new guidance in Planning Policy Wales Edition 10 (December 2018) to local authorities regarding renewable energy developments (page 94, para 5.9.17).

Welsh Government – Extending permitted development rights
The WG consultation on “Consolidation of the Town and Country Planning (Use Classes) Order 1987 and Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) Order 1995”, included the proposal that permitted development rights be applied to micro-hydro schemes (i.e. planning permission would no longer be required). CMS submitted a response specifically to this proposal.

Welsh Government – Developments of National Significance (DNS)
Consultation on proposals to establish a new system for WG to process “DNS” – a new category of planning application. If implemented, the system would take away from Local Authorities planning control for certain developments not big enough to be fast-tracked through UK government as a “major infrastructure project”.
