||CMS MEMBERS’ WALK
Leader: Dave Taylor
Length: 10 miles, moderate grade
Start time: 10.30am
NO DOGS PLEASE
Start location: Maesnant SN 774 878 at end of tarmac lane 5 miles NNE of Ponterwyd. Alternatively you can meet at 0940 in the Ystwyth Retail park (Matalan & Peacocks), Parc Avenue, Aberystwyth. It is recommended that you try to share cars as much as possible as there is limited parking along the verge of the lane.
Some possibly boggy sections near the start, but quite a lot is on tracks rather than paths. We cross Afon Hengwm near its junction with Afon Hyddgen, then follow Hengwm to reach Llyn Bugeilyn. Dave says “I have seen hen harriers in this area so keep your eyes peeled. At the northern end of Llyn Cwm-byr we may have a break as there are a good views over the Tarren Bwlch-gwyn escarpment. Then we go west to near Siambr Trawsfynydd where Owain Glyndwr’s army was supposed to have camped before the battle of Hyddgen. Later through forestry and then south to the headwaters of Afon Hyddgen, following it to its junction with the Hengwm near the Cerrig Cyfammod Glyndwr – Glyndwr’s memorial rocks, & then 25 mins back to cars.”
It will of course be hot and sunny BUT it is advisable to check with the leader 01970 828815 / 07831 735208 the evening before in case of inclement weather.
