Sun 10 Sep
Meeting a Marilyn in the Elenydd
Leader: Peter Foulkes
Length: 6 km / 200m climb
Start time: 10.15am
Start location: On the Ffair-Rhos to Teifi Pools road at a cattle grid/fence about 3 miles east of Ffair-Rhos (grid ref. SN785683). There are parking spots along this section of the road but please be careful not to block passing places.

A walk in the Elenydd, to a special summit – Lan Ddu-fawr. What is so special about it? First – it is the highest summit in the Elenydd ‘wilderness’. Second – its trig pillar (593m) is a few minutes walk south of the highest point, and a metre lower. Third, and most importantly – it is a Marilyn, alongside the likes of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa.
From the cattle grid we walk north towards our summit(s) over some potentially boggy ground. After the top, with its pillaged Bronze Age cairn, we turn east towards the two Llynnoedd Fyrddon, and hopefully lunch. The way back to the mountain road gives fine views over the Teifi Pools and takes us past Claerddu bothy.
The route can be very wet underfoot and only towards the end do we meet a path.
