|CMS MEMBERS’ WALK
The Pines of Drosgol
Leader: Peter Foulkes
Length: 9 km/ 250m climb (5½ miles / 820′ climb).
At a civilised pace the walk should take about 4½ hours.
Please no dogs as we are in sheep country.
Start time: Meet from 10.15am for a 10.30 start
Start location: Maesnant (Grid Ref SN775880, on Landranger 135 or Explorer 213). Parking can be found in ‘lay bys’ on the track up to Maesnant.
If weather conditions are extreme or there are other queries, phone Peter on 01650 511821
Only about a third of the route is on recognised paths, along with a good helping of purple moor grass. But it is early spring so everybody’s favourite grass should not be quite living up to another of its names – “Disco Grass”.
The walk heads up Hengwm before taking the bridge over the Hyddgen. Then after the first skirmish with “the grass” we take the bridge over the Llechwedd on to the lower slopes of Drosgol. After visiting the “Pines of Drosgol” (often seen in the distance, but not so often visited) the route makes its way to the top of the hill and its two Bronze Age cairns. Weather permitting; the summit should give fine views, notably the whole of Cardigan Bay from Bardsey Island down to Strumble Head. We descend down the hill’s NE ‘ridge’ to pick up the outward bound route, a second ‘dance in the grass’, and the plod back to Maesnant.
