The Monks’ Trod links the Cistercian abbeys at Strata Florida in Ceredigion and Cwm Hir in Radnorshire. The section between Pont ar Elan – at the top end of the Craig Goch reservoir – and Strata Florida passes over a wonderful stretch of remote, little-visited moorland. This 6-mile section has in the past been disturbed and damaged by off-road vehicle users. They were banned in 2002.
Recently, Powys County Council has announced the reopening of part of the Trod to motorcycles on three specified dates each year.
The Cambrian Mountains Society has written to Powys CC expressing its concern and stating its opposition to this move.
